BEIRUT: Plastic surgeon Nader Saab verbally and physically assaulted the head of the Lebanese Society of Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery Dr. Elie Abdel Hak on board an MEA flight that was heading from Beirut to Dubai, according to El Hak.
El Hak said Saab attacked him because he disapproved of a report filed by the society in the case of one of Saab’s former patients, who died while undergoing a cosmetic surgery.
“After the hostess had served me breakfast on the plane, Saab walked up to me and sarcastically thanked me for the committee’s report. I simply answered that I was doing my duty as head of the society,” El Hak told Annahar.
Saab then screamed at and cursed El Hak, before punching him twice in the face, media reports quoted one of the passengers as saying. El Hak didn’t retaliate, the passenger added.
El Hak said he will sue Saab before the judiciary and will file a complaint against the latter before the Lebanese Order of Physicians.
In a conflicting statement, Saab’s wife, Annabelle Hilal, claimed that El Hak had verbally assaulted Saab and his assistant before boarding the plane. Hilal also denied media reports that Saab was detained upon his arrival to Dubai.
Head of the Lebanese Order of Physicians Raymond Sayegh condemned the assault, saying in a statement that the order is "sad to witness such incidents between two doctors who represent Lebanon abroad.”
The statement added that the order will follow up on the case since it risked passenger safety on the MEA flight, and will seek both doctor’s testimonies before ruling on the case.
